 Opening Paragraph : Why has Asyafiyah Islamic University not progressed until now?

As-Syafi'iyah Islamic University is a chain of KH.Abdullah Syafi'e's pioneering and concern for Islamic education and the development of the quality of the ummah.

This university was originally in the form of an Academic with the name of Asy-syafi'iyah Islamic Education Academic (AKPI) established on November 14, 1965.On March 12, 1969, AKPI was upgraded to University status.Asy-syafi'iyah Islamic University has 14 study programs which are divided into 6 faculties namely Islamic Religion, Law, Economics & Business, Science & Technology, Teacher Training and Education, Health Sciences.

The formation period of Asy-Syafi'iyah Islamic University was managed with simple planning according to the principle of K.H. Abdullah Syafi'ie, which is famous for 'على قدر المونه تعتل مونه,' meaning 'as needed, come to help.' The simplicity of the planning, both in terms of the necessary equipment, regulatory devices, and supporting management activities, had resulted in the academic activities of Asy-Syafi'iyah Islamic University experiencing crisis after crisis because the definitive leadership that was formed was never active. This was also due to the fact that the University's supporting infrastructure had not been prepared separately, but was integrated with the activities of the university in general. After the renewal of this University has been running for one year, there is a provision from the government about the necessity of having a separate foundation for each college. K.H. Abdullah Syafi'ie agreed to form a new foundation as the university's trustee. The chairman of the Presidium Council, Dra. H. Tutty Alawiyah AS, then looked for people according to the criteria determined by K.H. Abdullah Syafi'ie. It was only in 1984 that a new foundation was established under the name As-Syafi'iyah College Foundation (YAPTA). After the establishment of YAPTA, the university leadership and faculty leadership also underwent changes. These changes were carried out solely with realistic considerations: those who did not have time were replaced by those who were more willing.

But why has Asy-syafi'iyah Islamic University not progressed until now?

In my opinion, Asy-Syafi'iyah Islamic University has not advanced until now due to several factors that affect the progress of this university, such as prolonged inactivity and only a few active faculties, organizations that are not running effectively, the construction of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII) in meeting the needs in the field of domestic Islamic higher education, and also improving the quality of Islamic education in Indonesia, and not functioning as an educational foundation in advancing this university.

In conclusion, As-Syafi'iyah Islamic University is a link in the chain of KH. Abdullah Syafi'ie's pioneering. This university began with the name Akademik Pendidikan Islam (AKPI). This university experienced several obstacles in progress such as inactivity, inactive organizations, and not functioning as an educational foundation.
